Cooking lessons
My cooking skill so far has not been very good. It's really time to hone the skill as I will be required to cook more in the future. As the saying goes "The way to a man's heart is through his stomach"..hahaha!! ;)
I've been very lucky all these years because mum has been doing all the cooking for the family. I am picking up some cooking lessons from mum lately. Mum is a good cook. Among learned dishes are Yong Tau Foo, stewed chicken with potatoes, fry vegetables (hey..need skill as well to cook vege), steamed eggs (a mixture of egg, salted and century egg), steamed fish (must learn well how to get rid of the fishy smell because I don't like the smell). I have also learned to boil soups. To be honest, I think cooking ain't that difficult. It's just getting the right combination of salt, pepper and soy sauce to make it taste good.
I plan to learn how to cook curry chicken, rendang chicken and sambal prawn. I must learn how to cook more spicy food because you can never get the authentic taste abroad.
I remembered the very first time I cooked was in 1999 for 2 of my friends during my visit to Melbourne. They were the lucky ones (HS and KK) as my family have never even tasted my cooking. I cooked Tom Yam fried rice for them and they just love it.
Coincidentally, my colleagues and I were also on the topic of cooking during lunch today. We were talking about how some cooking skills like making the 'Chang' are not well learned by the younger generation today. Skills were probably not passed down at all or there were just no interests by the younger generation to learn it in the first place.
Anyway, the thing to do now is for me to learn as much as possible from mum and dearie, hope you will get to enjoy my cooking soon =).
