The D-month!

March is upon us! Gosh! Where did the time go? I could still remember clearly the dreary cold month of November and December. Oh, how I hated it! And now, it's already March..spring is around the corner and the daylight is getting longer.

March is also the D-month (delivery month)! Today marks the 36th week of my pregnancy. I had a checkup with my midwife today and she told me that my little princess (yes, it's a girl  =)  ) is engaged and nicely positioned. She thinks I will be ready to pop anytime soon given my past record (Matthias was 12 days early than the EDD).

Everything is ready to welcome the arrival of the little girl. All I need to do now is to lead my daily life as normal and wait...  =)

I've also decided to go through the labour without any pain relief (ie.epidural) again. Am I insane or trying to be a strong mummy?

Will keep everyone posted on the little girl's arrival. Wish me luck!

Having a baby in Msia is an expensive affair!

Out of curiosity, I visited Mothercare Malaysia website to compare the price of items I've purchased from Mothercare UK.

I was taken aback by the price in MYR for the exact same items I've purchased. Even after converting the price to MYR, it was still cheaper to purchase baby items here.

The next thing that came to mind was it is not easy to financially support a baby in Malaysia. I wonder at times how lower income families with a few children manage their finances. How did my parents manage to support us financially?

I asked a friend today whether it would cost about MYR10K to financially support a newborn. She said it would probably be a lot more. I can imagine. Simple math would tell you this:

1) Labor, hospitalisation (natural birth) at private hospital : ~ MYR4K
(For C-section, may cost ~ MYR7k)
2) Confinement fee : ~ MYR3K
3) Baby items (Clothings, cot, strollers, infant car seat, other basic essentials - Depending on what quality and brand) : ~ MYR4K to 5K

Well of course nothing is perfect given that people in the UK pay high taxes. Nursery or child minder is not cheap either. So there is a trade off.

A sigh of relief for me now as the baby stroller, baby cot, mattress and other essentials finally arrived 2 days ago. Expecting the infant car seat in a few more days. There are a few more items to buy. Hopefully I can tick it off the checklist soon. The next thing to do is pack the hospital bag.

The advice is to be fully prepared by 36 weeks because baby can POP at anytime!

Babester preparation

It ain't easy preparing for the arrival of the lil one. I think I started my preliminary research on baby items as early as July. Nevertheless, the intensive research began about a month ago.

I am close to 8 months now (31 weeks to be exact). Items that I've bought so far were some clothings, blankets and some other small items. The bigger items like baby cot, mattress, pushchair and infant car seat have not been purchased. These items require a bit more research because it will be used for at least 3-4 years. So it is worth the time to do more 'homework'. I don't want to regret and waste money to purchase new ones if not suitable.

The 'to buy items' list seems endless but I just need to focus on what's more important and essential for now.

Wish me luck!

Baby on board!

I was telling an ex-secondary schoolmate how small my lil bump is (I am in my 20th week now) that I am not getting the "compassion" from people in the tube for a priority seat. She told me to get a "Baby on board!" badge from the TFL ticket counter so that people will know that I am pregnant.

So I casually walked up to the ticket counter today and asked for one.

TADAA!!

Let see if I can get a priority seat with that badge on me now =p

Finding the right taste

I am in my second trimester now. Vomitting is becoming more severe lately. It wasn't like this in the beginning. I will only vomit if the food doesn't suit my taste bud.

It is not the case now especially today. Anything that I ate, I will throw up in 10 minutes time =(. Forget about dinner. I throw up most of the time.

When will this be over? I am feeling sick everytime I vomit.

Lil one, please help mummy to eat for you.

Saying hello the first time

It was an indescribable feeling to say hello for the first time. Seeing the image appearing on the screen confirms that it is really a gift from God to us. Before this, I did not know what was happening to me biologically but this has assured me that there is indeed a little life in me now.

The little life is probably also anxious to meet us. The little fella was in the best possible position for the first photo. All we hope for is that this little life will grow healthily.

See you again in 2 months time.
